Should leaders read fiction?

Answer the following in a well-written paragraph of at least five sentences with a good topic sentence and a good conclusion: Does reading fiction make better leaders? What can leaders get from fiction? How can this impact the way(s) they lead and/or people respond to them? Why is this necessary (or is it necessary) for someone to lead well? From where (and from whom) should leaders get their reading choices? What books would you recommend to our country's leaders?

  1. 15.4. Yes, I agree. Within any kind of book, knowlegde can be taken away from it. Even a fiction book can offer some kind of advice. I don't think it is necessary for leaders to read for them to lead well, but I do belive it helps. Also, the book does't matter, whatever the person likes to read.

I think that leaders should read fiction because of multiple reasons. One, fiction creates ideas that can bounce in the brain and blossom into reality. Two, fiction stimulates the brain to help the thinking process. Three, a good book relieves stress, which is what a leader needs. Anyone with a clear mind can see that fiction is very beneficial.

  3. Alandra. 4. In my opinion, leaders who read fiction make them better. If our leaders read fiction, they could expand their imagination and get creative ideas for our country and such. Fiction reading can impact the ways they lead by giving them more motivation to give more freedom, or it can go the opposite way and convince them to become more strict. It's necessary for someone to lead well, because if they didn't lead well, their country/people would become corrupted. Our people would make a mess. I don't really know any books to recommend, but I know to not recommend the Hunger Games. Because fiction is very imaginative and creative, if our leaders read it, it would be very beneficial.

As Yann Martel said, I believe that leaders should read fiction. It gets your mind actually running and working unlike watching TV does. TV makes your brain basically mute, well it does to me. Whenever I read fiction books, I really get into it and don't want to stop reading it. But it is very hard to start a book, to me, and probably to a lot of others aswell. It does not sound fun or ammusing to just sit there and read a book, but it is once you get further into the novel or book. I think that leaders can get many things from fiction, while their brain is at full blast thinking about their life comparing to the book's story. The book may impact a leader on how the country is ran in the book. I don't believe that it will work for everybody, as everybody is different. I don't think that the leader's book choice matters, as any book gets someone's brain working. If something bad is going on in a book, the leader could do the opposite than what was done in the book, and so on. I would recommend reading The Hunger Games, to see how badly that society is working for them. The leaders could stay away from what the leaders did in that society. In conclusion, I do believe that leaders, and everybody should read fiction books, it helps every aspect of ones mind and speech.

As far as leaders reading go, it would not be a bad idea to have them read. It is time consuming, but it would be benifiecal for leaders to read books, so they can better understand people. I think that they should get their books from authors that would pick a book that they(the author) like and think would fit the purpose of them reading fiction.

I don't think it matters what you read to be a leader because why should it make a difference. Some leaders don't even read that much and they are still good leaders. Leaders can't really get anything from reading fiction. It cannot impact the way leaders lead because it does not matter. It';s not necessary for someone to lead well. Leaders should get there reading choices from themselves because they are readers and can decide that for themselves. I don't think it matters which book is recommended to leaders.

    1. Taylor To 25.4 I totally disagree with that statement. People, as well as leaders, can learn A LOT from fiction. Just because the story has never happened in real life, doesn't mean it can't teach a lesson. Looking at Life of Pi for example, you can't say you haven't learned or "gotten" anything whatsoever from this story. Fiction can give just as much as non-fiction can. When leaders read fiction, their knowledge gets broader. So, their skills in most everything grow. Fiction and non-fiction can give the same advice, life lesson, street smarts etc.

  7. 29.4. In my opinion reading can help alot with leading. Some books ,like Life of Pi, can end with good lessons for life. When some leaders read it opens up their minds to ideas they wouldnt normally do. I don't think it is necessary for leaders to read but, It is very helpful and good for that specific country. I would reccomend books with simple morals that relate to leadership.

  8. 5- I think that leaders should read. I've learned so much from books, and I feel that our leaders should too. When our leaders don't read and all of their knowledge is based on no imaginative things, their ideals have no imagination behind them. We don't need everything to have a solid background with facts. Some imagination is needed to make our leaders better, in my opnion.

I do not think that reading fiction makes a better leader. I'm assuming anyone that says otherwise, would think that anyone that reads fiction woukld become better storytellers or socially intelligent. This would mean the leader would have the ability to speak well and read or pick up emotions from the audience. I however, feel that reading fiction does not make a better leader. Being a leader comes from within and personal will. Reading fiction would have no influence on how someone leads others in my opinion. Being a storyteller would no doubt come from reading fiction. Becoming socially intelligent is dependent on the person. All in all, my opinion states that being a leader does not come from reading fiction but, personal views and abilities.

  10. Taylor.4. I do think leaders should read fiction because it can give them a bigger, or more broad spectrum on life in general. If you just read non-fiction, you don't really have any idea about "what-if's." You just know logic and fact, not fantasy and dream. If they read fiction, they will understand children's, as well as adult's dreams and try as hard as he or she can to make the world everyone's utopia, if you will. Leaders were all kids at one point. They can't say they haven't the slightest idea what kids want. That would be a huge lie! Adult's usually have around the same utopia. So, leaders should read fiction to broaden my spectrum about life.

Fiction definitely can make better leaders. Leaders can get a lot from fiction books, for they offer a broader view from their own. Fiction brings new ideas, and outlooks on life, and this can help our country in many ways. Many people might react warmer to leaders if they read fiction, because someone in such a high power is just like them. Though it is not necessary to read fiction books in order to be a good leader, I think it is beneficial. Recommendations should not matter, for a good book is a good book, and everyone, even a world leader, has a specific taste in books. Reading any fiction can have a very positive impact on leaders, which is helpful for our country.

I dont think that reading fiction books will make you a better leader, because books don't help you run things espeically fiction. I don't think that you can really gain anything from reading fiction books because for one: they aren't even real, and they dont provide true things. This can affect the way people respond/lead by if they decide to do something that is in the book it may not turn out good because, in the story it was never really tried and so it may not even work. It's necessary to lead well because if they lead wrnge everything will go wronge. for examples; they may loose respect for the leader, the economy could fall, or they might make a poor decition affecting everyone. I wouldn't recommend any book for our country's leaders because in my opinion it is their choice if they want to read a book and is their choice if they decide to take anything from the book. In conclution, I don't think that reading a fiction book will make you a better leader because it is their choice, and it wouldn't really make a difference if they did or didnt, because there'll still be mistakes and good disitions.

    1. Well 13.4, not to sound sassy, but I completely disagree. While fiction books may not have completely real situations, reading fiction keeps an open mind and is proven to increase I.Q. Also, it raises a person's tolerance level for different situations that might possibly happen in real life. Plus, reading fiction increases brain activity and facilitates the learning and adaptation processes. Along with better learning and adaptation skills, a leader who reads fiction would also develope a stronger and healthier cerebrum which, over all, helps one become more intelligent. We need intelligent leaders.

Leaders should read fiction because it opens them to a different world if stories and lore. All readers and leaders who read fiction see a better life to create. Also, they sometimes see a horrid life that they learn to avoid their country or household. That is the simple but true reason that leaders should read fictional stories.

  16. 28.4. I believe that leaders need to read to become a great leader. It shapes the dreams of a person. Say a kid reads about a rocket ship. He'll then want to build one later in life. He may become a rocket scintist. The impact of a good leaders is gargantan. The leader can then have a good affect on the area, rather than a melencholy affect. I would recomend historical fiction to leaders, as it can give insight to the leaders of history.Or it can get rid of the possibility of dictater ship. 4. I think reading fiction books makes better leaders because books help you relax and feel compasion. With out those basic elements how can you lead the country or whatever for the people? They wont care about the people they lead and the people will have devistation. It is neccessary to lead well so there isn't devistation. Leaders should get thier litterature ideas from the people they lead. some books i would recomened are _Speak_, all of the _Series_of_Unfortunate_events_, an _The_House_of_Night_Series_.

    1. 27.6 Although those series are amazing, I believe that fiction can help you too. In Speak, it told you to have someone help you in that situation. So that book is based off of real life things. So maybe it's a fiction book that has true details?

  18. 22.4. Even though reading isn't an imperative in our government, I believe our leaders should engage in some sort of reading. Reading fiction helps the brain function, by running, sometimes, incredulous ideas through your head; increasing brain activity helps one to be focused. Leaders can take the ideas and imagination ,that they have from reading, and use them in problem solving. Depending on the books and topics that the leaders are reading, they might come up with a great idea or cure to some conundrum and the people will be satisfied with the leaders work. It is necessary for someone to lead well, because if we are not lead well, all will turn into chaos. Leaders should read documentaries on past problems similar to the current problem, and see if they could get any idea from the book; obviously they would have to choose the reading wisely, because we might end up in the hands of another world war.

They sometimes have to read the news about events that are going on so they can do something about it. When you are a leader you are setting a good example for younger people. 26. I believe that leaders should read fiction. Leaders can learn what happens in these novels and what caused them. If these happenings are plausable, they can try to prevent them. It can also make the leader more likable. It helps them see what other people see, and makes them more open to ideas. The leaders should get the books from a good author that has won awards, i.e. best sellers, man booker, or nobel peace prize. The reason I think this is because then they know that the lituratre is good. They know that the reading will be fun, or meaningful, not boring and emotionless. 27. I believe that reading fiction does make better readers. Reading fiction does not only keep the brain active, but it's stress relieveing. Running a country isn't any easy job, just an hour long-escape into a good book could make a difference. People that read fiction are often adept in dealing with situations in unique ways, because their imagination is broadened. In some ways reading fiction keeps a person younger and calmer-- two qualities a stressed leader needs to just live through the day. If the leaders of our earth read more fiction, I think they would be over-all better leaders.

I think leaders can read whatever they want, not just fiction. They might not like fiction so they don't have to read something they don't like or isn't even real. I, personally wouldn't want to read something that's not going to be useful in my life. They might get confused by what's true and what's not. I don't really think that reading fiction can make a leader any better. Fiction is not true. If a leader was all about a fiction book, then people would not take that person very serious. I do think that reading certain stuff would make a leader better though. Non-Fiction would make a leader better because it lets them know about what has happened in the past, and they can know how to prevent the bad stuff from happening again. Clearly, reading fiction would not make a better leader. However, reading non-fiction would make a leader way better.

  33. I Agree that reading fiction makes better leaders, mainly because it lets them dream, dream about the future, and possible ways for life can become easier and more successful for the leaders' people. Think about Martin Luther King Jr., He was one of the greatest leaders in history, and will NEVER be forgotten. He lead his people through the worst and never gave up until his dream was accomplished. People may not think of exactly how he developed his dream, People assume that it was just because of how he didn't like to be treated. My point in this blog, is that one of the greatest leaders in history reads books, possibly fiction, and causing him to create the extraordinary dream that changed the way they predict the future. It's just one fiction book that you read, that could change you, and the future of leaders today.

I completely agree with Martel's opinion. How can you understand the problems of the people you look over unless you have sympathy for them? Without reading fiction, you can't be sympathetic of anything or anyone. Any politician that advertises that they understand their peoples situations better be a fiction reader. Although fiction stories are usually considered purely entertainment, fiction can help us form our opinions and personalities in very important ways; even if we don't always notice it.

Yes, readers should read fiction. Just because they are leaders doesn't mean than they can't be like everyone else. Whether or not a leader reads fiction or non-fiction doesn't make them not be leaders. Reading fiction doesn't really make someone a leader, neither does reading non-fiction. Leaders always read both fiction or non-fiction so it doesn't make a difference whether they read fiction or not. They are leaders either way. Reading in general doesn't make someone a leader so it wouldn't really matter if a leader read fiction or non-fiction. If they are leaders, people should look up to them whether they read fiction or not. People don't judge leaders on what they read anyways.

  36. 25.6: Despite the fact that it's unneccissary, I think that leaders would be better if they read novels, play scripts, etc. World leaders could get a lot of insight on topics that they normally wouldn't get through fictional works. They could make the leaders and/or their followers to be more sympathetic to certain topics, such as different political views or sexualities. It should be a necessity for national leaders to read novels so they can learn about other personalities and allow EVERYONE to be free, instead of being selfish and only viewing things from their personal, religious (Mitt Romney), or political views. It would probably a good idea for leaders to get their books from authors, recommending books from other authors that have lessons to be learned. For political people, both republican and democratic, I would recommend books that bring up the views of the other party (For example, I would send Todd Akin a biology book.)

I believe that a leader should not read ficton because they need to be serious. If they do not act like a leader, people will not treat them with respect. If a leader reads ficton, they think more creative, they do not need to be creative, leaders need facts. If people know that a respected leader reads ficton this would be a dent in their reputation. it is necessary because it will help people make the right desison. They should read business book or educational books.

The question was, Should leaders read fiction?. My answer to that is no. I say reading fiction does not make better leaders, because alout of the people I know that read fiction seem to live in dream worlds. I only see leaders getting bad ideas out of friction. Most of the friction books I have read either gave me bad ideas, or put bad ideas through my head that I had shot out. This could impact the way(s) they lead an/or people respond to them by making them think to out there, (or friction like), and most people I know want a leader that is not out there. It is necessary for someone to lead well because if they dont it could start a war or something catostrofic of that sort. I think leaders should get there reading material from the leaders before them. I personaly recomend the bible to our leaders. All in all fricion should not be read by leaders.
